About

What is Powerchair Football

Powerchair Football is a thrilling, fast-paced sport designed for electric wheelchair users. Played indoors on a basketball-sized court, it features two teams of four players — including a goalkeeper — who use specially adapted powerchairs to pass, spin-kick, and score with a large football. It’s tactical, energetic, and fiercely competitive.

At Nottinghamshire Powerchair Football Club (NPFC), we believe football should be for everyone. That’s why we’re proud to be part of a sport that breaks barriers and builds confidence. Whether you're chasing your first goal or your next trophy, Powerchair Football offers a level playing field for athletes of all ages and abilities.

Each chair is fitted with a metal foot guard, allowing players to strike the ball with precision and flair. Spin-kicks — where players rotate to generate power — are a signature move of the game, and the teamwork on display is second to none.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: to make competitive sport accessible, empowering, and joyful for electric wheelchair users of all ages and backgrounds. We offer structured, strategic team play in one of the few sports designed specifically for people with complex physical disabilities — including conditions like Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and Cerebral Palsy.

Club Profile

Nottinghamshire Powerchair Football Club (NPFC) is a not-for-profit community club — committed to creating opportunities for disabled players to play the sport they love.

A Championship-level Powerchair Football team in the East Midlands. We proudly support three squads: Nottinghamshire PFC, Nottingham Forest PFC, and The Outlaws, our development team.

Founded to support both recreational and competitive players, the club offers structured training, league competition, and pathways for development at all levels.

Run entirely by volunteers — many of them parents, carers, and players themselves — NPFC is more than a club. It’s a community. A place where competition meets compassion, and where friendships formed off the pitch are just as valuable as goals scored on it.

National league weekends are held locally at Nottingham Trent University. We also have players who’ve been invited to England Powerchair Football training camps — a testament to the talent and dedication nurtured within our club.

We’re grassroots. We’re resilient. We’re national competitors. And we’re changing lives — one match at a time.
